Our Refugee Hackathon was a huge success thanks to all the dedicated volunteers who gave their time and skills to projects they cared about. We started out with six project pitches and left the two days with four concrete projects. The projects included the Wifi Hotspot, Refugee Simulation, Door to Dutch! and Up!. Over fifty participants from across the country joined the hackathon, including programmers, journalists, web developers and designers. We were lucky to have refugees and migrants among the skilled and as part of the groups who were able to contribute to the process and share their stories first-hand.
Participants from the the four projects were able to come away with concrete next steps to follow up on the development of the projects. One project, the Wifi Hotspot, even managed to have a complete working prototype by the end of the hackathon.
HacksHackers AMS team sees great potential in each of the four projects and will continue to post updates on the progress of the groups on our blog.
A huge thank you to all of our volunteers and core organizing team. We thank our sponsors, ISOC.nl, Greenhost.nl, Free Press Unlimited, OneWorld.nl and individual donors who made this event possible.
